The Online Pre-Sessional programme is designed to help you meet your degree programme entry requirements. As such, once you have been given an Online Pre-Sessional placement you should not attempt to resit other English language tests. This is important for the following reasons:

  • The admissions department for your chosen degree programme may not accept revised English language test scores if you are registered on the Online Pre-Sessional. You will be required to successfully complete the Online Pre-Sessional to gain entry to your degree programme.
  • Once your 14 day cancellation period has expired, we will not refund Online Pre-Sessional fees if you have been resitting other English language tests and achieve the scores needed for degree programme entry.

We will email students close to the course start date, to give more information about the course and instructions to help students get ready for their first day.

We require students to pay their deposit using the University’s ePay service. We will provide a payment link to this service when we offer students a course place and request their deposit payment.

We prefer final balances to also be paid using the University’s ePay service, but alternative payment methods such as bank transfer are available. Full details will be included in our invoice when we request final balance payment. Please do not make payment for the Online Pre-sessional Programme through MyEd Fees.

If the fees for the Online Pre-Sessional will be paid for by a sponsor / scholarship, you will need to provide us with a recent letter from your sponsor confirming this. Once you have submitted your application, please send your sponsor letter to: col.admissions@ed.ac.uk Please note, due to high demand for places on the Online Pre-sessional, you will still be required to pay a deposit to secure your place. This deposit will be refunded to you once we receive full payment from your sponsor.

Please note, you will be responsible for paying any fees that are not covered by your sponsor.

Once you make your deposit payment to secure your place on the Online Pre-sessional, there is a 14 day cooling off period, after which the fee is non-refundable. Please note, final balance payments made at a later date do not have a separate cooling off period. Read our terms and conditions for full details.

Please be aware, after the 14 day cooling-off period, you will not be eligible for a refund if you later obtain higher IELTS scores and request to cancel your Online Pre-sessional place. Additionally, Online Pre-sessional fees cannot be transferred to degree programme or accommodation fees.

In order to receive an unconditional offer for your degree programme you must demonstrate that you have met all the requirements. All Online Pre-sessional students will be assessed during their Online Pre-sessional course, and if they successfully demonstrate that they have met the English language requirements of their degree programme through these assessments, you will satisfy the English language requirements for entry to your degree.

We cannot advise on your degree programme application, including any queries about the English language requirements for your degree or what will happen regarding your degree programme studies. If you have any queries about your degree programme and its entry requirements, you should contact the Admissions Office handling your degree application.
