Academic Language and Literacies for In-Sessional Study (ALLIS)

Free, non-credit bearing courses available for undergraduate and postgraduate students from all disciplines at the University of Edinburgh.

Applications for Semester 2 of the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught courses and Set 2 of the Postgraduate Research courses will open on Monday 8 December.

Applications for all the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught courses will close Sunday 25 January. Applications for Qualitative Research 1, Qualitative Research 2 and Scientific Research will close Sunday 18 January, and for Writing your PhD First Year Report and Reviewing the Literature on Sunday 15 February.

Please note that we will not be able to confirm acceptance onto these courses until *after* the application deadline has passed. Places are normally allocated on a first come first served basis.

Before applying:

  • Read the ALLIS course descriptions to ensure you choose the courses most appropriate to your needs.

After applying:

  • Please be patient! We will contact you after the application deadline to confirm if you have been given a place.
  • Check your email after the application deadline for further communications from us.

Please be aware:

  • You must submit a separate application for each course you apply for, and we strongly advise you to only apply to a maximum two courses per semester, or one course in the case of courses for Post Graduate research students.
