The following Academic English Credit Courses are new for 2026/27 and are available to all first and second year Undergraduate students: English for Successful Academic Communication 1 (ESAC 1) ESAC 1 is designed to build your confidence and improve your academic English language and study skills. The materials and class activities will support your studies at Edinburgh and enable you to participate fully in the courses offered on your programme. You will develop and practise listening and note-taking, reading and text analysis, discussion skills, academic writing, and presentation skills. English for Successful Academic Communication 2 (ESAC 2) ESAC 2 supports you in becoming a more confident and effective academic writer. Through two short research projects—one collaborative and one individual—you'll learn how to approach essay questions, read strategically, and use sources effectively in your writing. The course also introduces key aspects of academic integrity, including referencing, citation, and the responsible use of AI tools. English for International Business Communication EIBC develops international business communication skills through the lens of an ethical investment report. You will analyse real-world business challenges, produce a piece of professional writing and deliver a formal individual presentation on a business-related topic of your choice. The course also integrates intercultural communication, negotiation skills, simulations and presentation skills relevant to global business environments.
