Summary

We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated EAP practitioners to teach on our BALEAP-accredited pre-sessional programme on campus in Edinburgh in summer 2024. Contracts of 7 weeks (8 July – 23 August 2024) or 11 weeks (10 June to 23 August 2024) are available.

Contract dates

7 weeks: Monday 8th July 2024 - Friday 23rd August 2024 

11 weeks: Monday 10th June 2024 - Friday 23rd August 2024

Interviews will be held from week commencing February and March.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • first degree and/or significant experience and standing in a professional, practice-based background relevant to the subject area
  • relevant Master’s Degree (or equivalent) or currently engaged in related post-graduate study
  • relevant language teaching qualification including observed teaching practice (if your qualification is less well-known, please describe the course content in your covering letter)
  • demonstrable teaching experience, for example UK Pre-Sessionals
  • up-to-date knowledge of current theory and practice in teaching, learning, course/materials design and assessment in the subject area
  • excellent IT skills and evidence of supporting the integration of technologies into learning, teaching and scholarship

As a Pre-Sessional Teaching Fellow, you will use English Language Education’s (ELE) in-house materials to plan and teach lessons, to provide formative and summative feedback to students and to mark final assessments on the University of Edinburgh’s Pre-Sessional Programme. You will be a committed EAP teacher and keen to embrace reflective practice and professional development, and you will be a person committed to dignity, respect and collegiality.

Teaching Fellows will receive the following holiday entitlement: 

  • Full Time entitlement for 7 weeks = 32 hours 
  • Full Time entitlement for 11 weeks = 51 hours  

Any annual leave entitlements remaining at the end of the period of employment are paid within Pre-sessional Teaching Fellows last monthly salary payment.

  • Interviews will take place on MS Teams and will last for around 30 minutes
  • There will be one task for which you can prepare. You will be sent some teaching materials and asked to talk about how you would use them
