To process your claim, you will need to provide evidence of the booking date and sum paid for your accommodation booking. Accepted evidence that needs to be provided includes: Receipt or invoice on company headed paper Receipt or invoice signed by the landlord including the landlords name and address. Evidence must be received by the last day of the month for payment on the 28th of the following month. Accommodation allowances will only be provided on the condition that you complete your contractual teaching obligations to the Centre for Open Learning. Should you leave the accommodation early COL will not reimburse any cancellation fees for which you are liable – this will remain a private arrangement between you and the accommodation provider. If you opt for the Accommodation Allowance option, you are responsible for all aspects of the accommodation booking. The Accommodation Allowance will be paid directly to you via Payroll, alongside your salary, and is therefore likely to be subject to UK income tax and NI deductions, depending on your individual situation. You may be able to claim this back when you return to your country of usual residence, and you are responsible for any corresponding tax liabilities that ensue. Further tax information, including how to reclaim, is available on request Homestay Accommodation Subsidised accommodation may also be available (subject to availability) with a host family within the Edinburgh area, allowing colleagues to stay within a family home for their period of employment with COL. Location and facilities vary across households and further information would be provided on a case by case basis. This article was published on 2023-11-23
